Goldcrest Fine Jewellery

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Over the last few years, we have had more and more enquiries from customers who have wanted to extend their love of all things Alex Monroe into pieces of jewellery which they would truly wear forever, their engagement and wedding rings.

We now have a bespoke department and regularly make wonderful bespoke pieces for lovely customers who come and see us here at Snowsfields.

But what if you want a piece of solid gold Alex Monroe jewellery that isn’t bespoke?

This is where the idea for ‘Goldcrest‘ was born, our first major outing into fine jewellery.

Making existing designs in solid gold didn’t seem exciting enough….and the dramatic rises in the price of gold, would mean that even pieces in Alex’s delicate style would be incredibly expensive….so we decided to go even smaller, and came up with the ‘Teeny Tinies’ – recreating some of our most iconic pieces in miniature!

To give you an idea of scale, here is the gorgeous ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke, wearing our Teeny Tiny Bumblebee:

Emilia Clarke on the front row wearing a Teeny Tiny!

And we now offer a selection of pretty wedding and engagement rings, which you can purchase ‘off the peg’ so to speak!  Made in Alex’s trademark detailed style, you can chose from sparkly diamonds, or gorgeous gemstones in mouth-watering sorbet colours ….

In addition to our website and the Alex Monroe Boutique, you can also view and purchase Goldcrest pieces in the following stockists:

BHLDN

Charles Fish, Canary Wharf, London

Ede & Ravenscroft, Chancery Lane, London

Fenwick, Bond Street, London

Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly, London

Harrods, Knightsbridge, London

Liberty, Regent Street, London

Room Nine, Bonn, Germany

Silverado, Brighton

Sweet Pea, Primrose Hill, London

We LOVE Goldcrest and hope you will too.

Bespoke Competition…..

Friday, August 17th, 2012

We have some very special news for your this Friday….

For the month of August we are running an amazing competition with Country & Town House Magazine for one lucky person to win a voucher for £1000 to spend on, or put towards a bespoke commission.

Here is our full page spread in the magazine!

The competition is a simple prize draw, and the winner will visit our Boutique to design their dream piece of Alex Monroe jewellery in a private one-to-one consultation with Alex himself.

As with any commission, the price will be calculated accordingly, and upon agreement, the work will begin! We will then contribute £1000 towards the total price.

Here is an example of a previous bespoke commission in Platinum, where Alex made a bird's nest to form the setting for the Diamond.

In addition to our main collections of jewellery, we also make a small range called ‘Goldcrest’ which is precious or ‘fine’ jewellery. All of the pieces are solid 18ct yellow or white gold, and adorned with Diamonds or exquisite gem stones.

Of course, there are many special occasions which require a special piece of jewellery, but none quite so momentous as a wedding day!  So we are very happy that many Alex Monroe creations have completed that all-important “Yes” or “I Do” moment, from our ‘Heritage‘ rings, to the ‘Forest Jewels‘.

The majority of our bespoke commissions are of course for Engagement or Wedding Rings, and existing Alex Monroe designs often form the starting point for this.  We can work in 18ct Gold or Platinum, and source Diamonds to suit any budget.

Many of our customers chose gemstones over Diamonds, either precious, or semi-precious, that perhaps hold significant meaning, or are maybe just a favourite colour!

A bespoke piece of jewellery can be much more affordable than one might imagine, but even so, we always advise customers to come with a fixed budget in mind.  We can then design the piece and source stones around this budget, which makes things easier for us, and avoids any potential shocks for the client!

We are very proud to be selling a selection of Rings with the beautiful bridal company, BHLDN (pronounced ‘Beholden’) in the USA, they have two stores, in Chicago and Houston, but you must check out their website – it is absolutely stunning.

Our Green Amethyst ‘Forest Jewel’ is proving to be BHLDN‘s most popular style, which they offer in 9ct yellow Gold and have re-named ‘Evergreen Hollow’ – lovely!

And we were thrilled to read what one of their Brides said about it:

“  My fiancee and I decided on this ring as an unconventional engagement ring, and I love it. It is gorgeous, and it’s a fun and glamorous alternative to the basic diamond engagement ring. The twig-sculpted band is particularly wonderful. This is perfect for a non-traditional bride or just as a great piece to add to your collection.  “

In addition to the Rings themselves, there are still lots of other jewellery-wearing opportunities for your big day! We’ve heard from customers who have worn everything from Lockets, to Birds to Feathers on their wedding day, and we know lots of pieces have been bought as bridesmaids gifts too.

We were lucky enough to contribute to a gorgeous bridal shoot recently, styled by Hannah Gooch of The Ebury Collection (which is a directory of the best and most unique wedding specialists in the UK) and photographed by Sarah Gawler.

Here are a couple of our favourite shots:

Large Peacock Feather Necklace in Silver.

Little Feather Hook Earrings in Silver.

Let us know if you wore any Alex Monroe on your wedding day!

We have lots of ‘Goldcrest‘ pieces available  in our London Bridge Boutique, and will actually be re-launching the range soon, so keep your eyes peeled…..!

If you would like any further information about our Bespoke service please drop our Bespoke Manager Susie Lee a line, and she will be only too happy to advise and assist you.

And of course, GOOD LUCK with the competition! Emma x

Visit to Italy and events in the UK……

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

As many of you will know, Alex is often inspired by his travels, and our ‘Calabria’ collection of several years ago is testament to this, with the swallows, flowers and leaves of Alex’s Italian holiday destination captured forever in pieces such as this….

But sadly we don’t really sell to many shops in Italy, so when we were invited to participate in an event in Milan celebrating the best of British jewellery, we jumped at the chance!

So… a capsule collection of Alex Monroe is now available at the exclusive La Rinascente department store in Milan, in their ‘Design Supermarket’…..

Display at 'The Queen's Jewels'

Classic Alex Monroe designs at the Design Supermarket.

The pop-up shop is called ‘The Queen’s Jewels’ as it of course coincided with the Jubilee.  It was great to check out the variety of work from the other UK designers chosen….we especially liked Sam Ubhi, Jianhui, The Branch and Livia Firth – who was in attendance speaking (in Italian!) about her Eco projects.

Here's me with our display in the store.

I decided to take this as a great opportunity to catch up with all of our friends in Milan…..

First stop was the Conde Nast offices.....

Federica is the jewellery editor for Vogue Gioiello and I was also very pleased to spot her wearing our Baby Bee when she spoke at La Rinascente! Federica wrote this report on the event.

Federica wearing her Baby Bee!

(Thank you also to Glamour also wrote this, and to Elle Decoration who wrote this)

Next up was Giulia at her store, Au Cabaret Vert, which is named after one of her best customer’s favourite poems!

Giulia in the shop, wearing her Dragonfly!

Me checking out the jewellery....

Au Cabaret Vert have recently moved to 14 Via San Maurilo, and their big re-opening is actually this Thursday! (14th June – details below)

Then I went to see new stockist, Suite 123…..and there may have been an ice cream along the way……!!

Inside Suite 123

Cristina, Me and Rosita.

A big THANK YOU to everyone in Italy who made me feel so welcome!

Oh, and after all of that I popped down to the beautiful coastal town of Alassio....

Meanwhile, back in the UK, everyone was Jubilee crazy! We launched our Best of British collection to an AMAZING response…..

Suzy.A took a trip down to Brighton to visit our good friends at Silverado, who put on a lovely launch and Trunk Show event……

Michelle, Suzy.A and Emma.

And our Boutique was so busy it was almost bursting at the seams! Here’s Jutta and Beth in a quieter moment….

Beth and Jutta flying the flag!

Great news for anybody who hasn’t made it down to see us at our London Bridge Boutique yet…..as of the 16th June – WE ARE NOW OPEN ON SATURDAYS! YAY!

Our Saturday opening hours are 11am – 5pm, and to celebrate our first ever Saturday, the first 10 customers on the day will receive a goodie bag with purchase. We are 2 minutes from the lovely Bermondsey Street, and 10 minutes from Borough Market, so there’s plenty of foodie treats in the area too.

Hope you can make it down to see us some time,

We spotted leading lady Tamsin Greig wearing our Silver Swallow & Sapphire Necklace throughout the show……

Yep - that's definitely it!!

Epic catch up from Emma!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Wow, our feet have hardly touched the ground this year! But we are now settled in Snowsfields, and the boutique is getting busier by the day….

We had our press launch a couple of weeks ago, which was great fun, and it finally made us feel ready to shout about our little shop!

We’ve had some great on-line press and blog posts since the event, with some of our favourites being Adorn, Velo-City Girl and You & Your Wedding.

Suzy.A and myself on the day - image courtesy of Adorn London.

We made up some amazing goodie bags, which we couldn’t have done without the help of Penhaligon’s, Clipper Teas, Cazenove & Loyd and Burt’s Bees…..plus we snuck in one of our Jubilee inspired “All the Best” necklaces…… We will be offering three chances to win one of these goodie bags, in-store, on Facebook, and on Twitter, so keep your eyes peeled for more details.

"All the Best" Necklace, £165

This Necklace is from Our ‘Best of British’ collection, which will be going out to stores across the UK in May.

We will be launching the range at 37 Snowsfields on the 31st May, all day until 8pm…..so come along and join us for some Jubilee style celebrations!

Another event we have coming up is with Astley Clarke – to celebrate the expansion of their range of Alex Monroe. It is next Thursday the 17th of May, from 6.30 – 8.30pm. RSVP via email: events@astleyclarke.com

I visited New York back in February, which seems so long ago now! We are hoping to expand Stateside soon, so I was visiting possible trade shows for us to exhibit at……

Out and about in NYC on a sunny Sunday...

Then off to my favourite diner for some brunch, B Bar & Grill….I discovered it on my first trip to New York, and now always have to pay it a visit!

40 East 4th Street At Bowery.

Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon.

The trip was also a great opportunity to check out potential stores to sell in, with my favourites being Love, Adorned on 269 Elizabeth Street and Catbird in Brooklyn. Do get in touch if you have a favourite U.S store that you think Alex Monroe would be a perfect fit with!

219 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn.

Inside the shop.....

Not on the jewellery line, but another great shop is Fishs Eddy….kind of like a quirky Habitat…..and when I got back to London I discovered that Liberty had just started stocking a selection from them!

Fishs Eddy.

Italian Floral Wine Glasses.

I also met some lovely people…..Charlotte and Ben Taylor from UK fashion label Charlotte Taylor….check out their amazing prints…..and Caitlin from Cosmo and Harper’s Bazaar kindly showed me around their jaw-dropping offices…..

WOW!

Caitlin at her desk.

Next stop for us will be Milan for a showcase of British designers at department store, La Rinascente. This starts on 31st May, and runs until the 24th June, so Italian fans of Alex Monroe will have the opportunity to buy pieces in this exclusive Milan store.

Event at La Rinascente in celebration on the Diamond Jubilee.

Finally, for anyone who has watched the ITV series ‘Scott & Bailey’ and wondered about the necklace Lesley Sharp’s character wears….we can confirm that it is our lovely little Baby Bee!

And we also loved this Vogue shoot with Florence Welch wearing our White Topaz Bud Earrings…..

The Goring Shrimp.

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Here’s a quick update following a lovely piece in Metro some of you may have spotted about our latest collaboration, with the Goring Hotel……

The world’s best Hotel (where else would you spend your last night as a single girl before marrying a Prince?! The Goring of course!) asked Alex to come up with a quirky idea for their afternoon teas, of which they change the theme throughout the year.

The Goring.

Well, as usual Alex managed to come up with some wonderful childhood tales…..memories of ‘Shrimp Teas’ he enjoyed as a youngster came to mind, with fresh shrimp bought straight from East Anglian fishermen, and enjoyed in the sunshine with a huge pot of tea and an endless supply of  bread and butter. Mmm, sounds delicious!

And so here we introduce the Goring Shrimp.  A lovely little fellow made in silver with a rose gold plate, and two black pearls for eyes.

The Goring Shrimp

He hangs on a 24 inch chain and would make the perfect addition to anybody’s jewellery collection – distinctive and quirky, yet somehow still incredibly pretty!

Alex actually worked alongside The Goring’s chefs to create the perfect ‘Alex Monroe Afternoon Tea, delicate finger sandwiches, and mini loaves of wholemeal bread filled with potted shrimp…..plus the essential scones, jam and clotted cream, and some stunning floral, honey and mint cakes!

The ‘Alex Monroe Afternoon Tea will be available at the Goring Hotel from May the 1st, coming complete with the exclusive Shrimp Necklace for £195.  Call 020 7396 9000 to book.

The tea in all of it's glory!

The Goring Shrimp can also be purchased separately for £165 and traditional afternoon tea at The Goring is £35 per person.

From June, The Goring Shrimp will also be available directly from us! Drop us a line if you would like to go on our waiting list to purchase one: shop@alexmonroe.com

Afternoon Tea and a beautiful piece of jewellery……wouldn’t that make just about the perfect treat?!

It’s all terribly civilized!
