About You
Paradise Found
Owners, Jackie and Matt Seago
How would you spend your perfect day off?
Matt: We love going for coffee in our favourite coffee shop, Monde, at our local stables in Northampton. Then walking our dog Lamb in the country fields, and seeing friends. Bliss!
Best ever movie?
Point Break, it is what led Matt to take up surfing and skydiving. He introduced me to it and I can appreciate what a cool film it is, also it has Patrick Swayze in it, so I never have to be persuaded to watch it!
Best ever book?
Jackie: I have read hundreds of books when I used to commute into London on the train from Northampton every day. The only problem is I read that many that I can’t tell them apart so I never have titles or authors to recommend to people when they ask.
Favourite Food?
Jackie: I have a big sweet tooth and love having an afternoon cup of coffee and slice of cake. Matt and I have set ourselves a task to experiment more with our cooking, as we are lacking some skill.
Dogs or Cats?
We both adore dogs, and have several within the family all shapes and sizes. We personally have a little Yorkie though, called Lamb, and we are currently searching for a friend for Lamb.
Town or Country?
Matt: Definitely country for us, although it is possible to get the best of both, we live in a small village on the outskirts of Northampton next to a farm and surrounded by fields, however we are just a short journey to several major towns. Also where our shop is located, Stamford, it is a beautiful picturesque town in the middle of the country side.
Best Biscuit?
Jackie: At the moment it has to be Party Rings, I cannot open a packet without wanting to finish it.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Matt: Well this is our first shop an we have been open for nearly 2 months now, so all being well who knows where it can leas us, hopefully on to several more!
About Your Shop
How would you describe your shop?
We are a luxury boutique offering elegant products with definitively British style. There is something to suit any occasion, any look, every home, any love one, any budget, always with a sense of style.
What makes you so special?
I always wanted to open a jewellery shop and that is where my heart lies, but in the process of setting it up we found ourselves expanding into several other areas, and thought if it is in our shop we want to be able to sell it, therefore whatever you see you can buy, including the wallpaper!
Are you easy to find?
We are in the heart of Stamford surrounded by quaint independent shops, which was the main draw to Stamford for us. On St Mary’s Street you can find some real little Gems.
What’s the best thing about your location?
Stamford is know for it’s Churches, there are at least 4 within a 2 minute walk of the shop. Also there are several well established coffee shops and restaurants which people come from all over to visit, the most popular being The George. Best of all the town has been used to film Pride and Prejudice in 2005 and The Da Vinci code in 2006.
Where is the best place for a coffee nearby?
I would have to say Fine Foods which is a stones throw from our shop and I do several coffee runs throughout the day there. Their cakes are also the talk of the town.
Any other must see things in the area?
Burghley House and Burghley horse trials bring people from far and wide to this quaint town, it is such a beautiful place to visit, in particular the gardens and deer park.
About the jewellery
What do you like/hate about Alex Monroe jewellery?
Alex Monroe jewellery has had an overwhelming response since opening our doors, The Bumblebee being in the window stops people in their tracks. It has been a great brand for me to have in store, as it represents what we are about, bringing unique, fashionable, designer jewellery to a small market town… and they are head over heels in love with it.
Do you have a favourite piece?
My favourite piece although it’s hard to choose, would have to be the gold Flower Ball Locket with silver bird inside. I adore mixing gold and silver together, and I love the fact that there is an unusual surprise inside the locket.
Any tips for customers?
Obviously layering is the biggest trend at the moment, don’t be scared to try several necklaces at once, it really works! Also mixing gold and silver in one look, gone are the days of having to stick to one material.
Any cute stories about the jewellery from customers?
We have had several romantic stories of loved ones giving Alex Monroe jewellery as presents. It is always a lovely story that they want to share with us (with a big smile on their face). Obviously it is their favourite romantic gesture receiving a piece of Alex Monroe Jewellery.
What are your best sellers?
Bumblebee, Bumblebee, Bumblebee!
Any tips for a bloke buying jewellery as a gift?
Trust your instinct, you know what they will love, and it’s very hard to get it wrong with Alex Monroe.
