Happy Friday!

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Well, it’s as hectic as ever here at AMHQ so it’s been tricky finding a moment to write a blog post!

As you all know, our new HQ is well underway now – we can’t believe we’re actually going to have our own shop! Now all we need to do is organise it all…….but we have some exciting developments on that front, which I hope we can tell you about soon…..

February seems ages ago already, but that was when we launched our Autumn / Winter range, ‘Chrysanthemum’ at London Fashion Week.  This time, it’s all about grown-up glamour, and although still very much nature inspired, it’s a very sophisticated collection with Pearls and lots of statement Rings and Earrings. This is my absolute favourite piece:

Cupped Pearl Ring

We really enjoyed setting the scene for the collection on the stand, the focal point of which was a gorgeous 1950′s dressing table…..

At the stand......

Looking down on the dressing table.

We displayed the pieces with trinkets and old ring boxes.

Lovely Pearl and White Topaz pieces.

Everyone loved it, so we were really pleased – it was exciting to be showing something so different again.  We will be launching ‘Chrysanthemum’ at the new shop in June, then it will start to head out to our stockists in July.

Sometimes our pieces are cute and quirky, other times they are more glamourous, and sometimes they meet somewhere in the middle…. But it’s great having this mixture, as it means the jewellery can be so much more personal and individual – it’s about how you wear it!

We always thought of our black Crow Feather pieces as being a bit more Rock & Roll – certainly by Alex Monroe standards, but actually they can look incredibly sophisticated too. I love this image from a shoot Stella Magazine did at the end of last year…..

Crow Feather Stud Earrings.

These particular earrings aren’t available on our site, but you can find them on-line at Net-A-Porter.

‘Daisy Bell’ has been hugely popular since it’s launch, we’ve already added more into our selection on-line, and Liberty are just about to receive a top-up too.

The Daisies will especially get you in the mood for spring, they are perfect for a lovely sunny day like today…..Net-A-Porter sold out of the Earrings in TWO DAYS but they will be receiving a new delivery soon, and still have the Necklace – as modeled for them by Alexa Chung.

We are definitely having a happy Friday today, as we are off to the Oxo Tower for a special treat from Alex. They do something called ‘Not Afternoon Tea’ which is four little puddings and a cocktail, it sounds gorgeous – so we are going to try it out……thank you Alex!

Have a great weekend,

Vertigo

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

We have snowdrops, winter Iris’, witch hazel, wintersweet, and helibores all flowering, and everything else is sprouting away like mad. Looks like spring is starting to spring. It was very sweet to see a little bee warming up in the sunshine on Saturday morning. She tried to come into the house so Libby and I put her safely in a warm spot in the garden.

Not sure but think she’s a she and a Bombus Terrestris.

We managed to miss the sunny days when we all went down to the new building for a quick look round. They’re doing amazingly! And we all got slightly vertiginous on the to floor, but we do have fantastic views, if you like big views of SE1 that is!

The balcony and board room

On the roof garden, well, it will be a garden when finished...

The workshop on the second floor

Also I just found this photo of the lovely red gold collection in Harrods…..

London Fashion Week starts any minute, then we’ll open to the public at London Fashion Week-end, then I’m off to Paris…….. busy busy busy, but not too busy……. I’m taking a few days holiday in between it all. I’ll report back with (hopefully) gorgeous pics of sun-drenched beaches.

London Fashion Week SS2011

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

We have absolutely loads of news for you, but the run-up to any trade show or event is usually pretty frantic, so there hasn’t been too much time for blogging lately……

So, yesterday it was time to launch our new collection ‘Daisy Bell’ at London Fashion Week, and it was met with a great response from our buyers and the press….

Alex has been busy at the bench designing and making some extra-cute new pieces, all themed around a countryside picnic, with the old song ‘Daisy Bell’ being his initial inspiration. I’m sure everyone must know it, “Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do, I’m half crazy all for the love of you……..”

The collection won’t hit the shops until Spring, but here’s a little tease of what you can expect…..

As this collection won’t be available for a little while, don’t forget that there are some great Alex Monroe events coming up…..

London Fashion Week-End happens twice a year, and is a great opportunity to pick up lots of designer bargains. We will of course be there, with discounts on Classics and some great bargains too. It runs from Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th September. Be warned – you do need to buy a ticket to attend, so check out the official website here.

While that’s all going on in London, I’m off to the west country next Saturday (25th September) where I will be visiting the lovely Bloomsbury team at their Cabot Circus store in Bristol with some brand-new Trunk Show pieces! The store is open from 10am – 7pm so come along and say hello and grab yourself a one-off Alex Monroe design.

As I said, we have lots of news, so as always, watch this space!

London Fashion Week February 2010

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Well, after a week of last minute preparations and a few panics, yesterday we were finally able to launch our new collection, ‘The Peacock and the Crow’ at Fashion Week!

We originally launched the range as a capsule collection at Liberty in November last year, which was a complete instant sell out! It mainly consisted of more dressy pieces, which were perfect just before all those Christmas parties, as anyone who saw, or the lucky few ladies that own pieces will know!

Alex has now built and expanded the range, so there are more wearable ‘everyday’ pieces, but this does mean more choice, and therefore more difficult choices to make……

Myself and Suzy A are working at the show, but making the stand look good has been very much a group effort, so thank you to everyone involved. Here are some pics:

Our stand.

As the new collection has a distinct glamorous and slightly gothic feeling, we really wanted to capture this, and set the scene on our stand.  To do this we needed lots of props, and luckily Alex’s friend Carol is an absolute genius with antiques so she found us lots of amazing pieces…..

Little pictures, glass decanter, peacock feathers and candlesticks....

A lovely old Chinese clock and some great candlesticks.

A lovely old Chinese clock, candlesticks, and Carol even managed to find the perfect chairs on the street!

And I suppose I better tell you about the jewellery too!

A real box of treasures!

Alex has really created two collections in one, with  rich gold Peacock feathers contrasted against jet black Crow feathers.

We have plated the Crow pieces with Ruthenium, which is actually from the Platinum family of metals. It’s an amazing finish, a really strong black colour and almost iridescent in places – perfect for glossy Crow feathers!

London Fashion Week gives us the opportunity to show our buyers all of our collections, so they can pick the pieces they want to have in-store.  Yesterday was really busy, and we took new orders from Indian Summer, EcOne, Madeleine Hamilton and Fenwick.  We also had some nice chats with the girls from KJ’s Laundry, Cerise and Austique, who all said the jewellery was flying out, which is great.

Orders placed at the show will be going into stores around June, so I’m afraid you will have to wait until then to see the pieces in the flesh.  We may launch a few pieces from the collection on-line before then, so watch this space….

For more sneak-preview pictures of ‘The Peacock and the Crow’ check out our Facebook fan page.

The stand is starting to get busy so I better say bye for now! Emma and Suzy A x x
