Moustaches

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Well, it’s Movember time again. Last year I grew a ‘tache in November because my dear old Dad had Prostate Cancer. Well, it got the better of him a few weeks ago, so this year I’m doing it in his memory.
Basically, I look rediculous with a ‘tache, so when my old friend Emily from Penhaligon’s told me they were doing a free pop-up ‘tache trim and shave shop in their Covent Garden store I booked up straight away. (check it out here!) It was lovely, hot towels a trim and a shave by the lovely Lee. If you do pop in say Hi to Richard. He manages the shop and is fantastic. You’re bound to have a laugh if he’s there. So now I look slightly less like Ned Flanders and slightly more like someone who would try and sell you dodgy nylons in 1940′s Britain. Ah well. Just wait. By the end of Nov I’ll be waxing it!
Anyone interested in Movember and all the good work they do check ‘em out here
My personal profile page is here http://mobro.co/agmonroe (any donations very welcome!)

And here’s a pic or two…
Back soon,

Another Busy Week!

Friday, June 11th, 2010

As our studio is a bit out of the way, we love it when we have shopping events and get the chance to meet our lovely customers.  So thank you to everyone who came along to our pop-up shop at Penhaligon’s on Tuesday, we all had a great day!

We had lots of great support from like-minded companies which really made the day complete.  We of course love Penhaligon’s who kindly let us use their consultation room for the shop, and by the end of the day we were all smelling beautiful and fully converted from wearing ‘designer’ fragrances.

We really wanted to create an ideal shopping experience, and Matt and Marc from Planet of the Grapes gave us some lovely fizz for everyone to sip as they browsed. We also gave a goodie bag with every purchase, which contained some little treats for the way home – Burt’s Chips and Frü Puds.

Goodie Bags!

There seems to be quite a bit of excitement about our new ‘Peacock & the Crow’ collection, so don’t worry if you couldn’t make it along, as it will be uploaded onto the site in the next couple of weeks – keep your eyes peeled! But in the mean time, here are some images from the day:

Yesterday we took it in turns to whizz off to Little 15 in Cullum Street to help out Jutta with her launch of the collection, but it was too busy to take any pics!

Susie is going to be up bright and early tomorrow to visit Silverado’s new Lewes shop for a Trunk Show – lots of lovely one-offs as usual, and Silverado will also have the ‘Peacock & the Crow’ in stock.  We will be back down at their Brighton store on Saturday the 10th of July.

We are looking forward to Alex’s return from Japan to hear all about what he’s been up to, but in the mean time, look who we’ve spotted wearing AM recently!

We were really pleased when Silverado told us about their new shop in Lewes – they’ve been trying to buy a property there for ages, but it looks well worth the wait!

Look at the lovely collection of hand mirrors on the wall!

We’ve been dying to tell you about this for ages…..

The gorgeous perfume house Penhaligon’s have created a truly amazing new scent called Amaranthine, which really is like nothing else I’ve ever smelt!

Working with master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, they have created an unusual and sensual aroma, described as “A corrupted floral oriental for those private moments when everything is anticipation”.

In case you’re wondering what all of this has to do with us, you can buy a limited edition version of the fragrance in a beautiful hand cut crystal bottle, complete with a removable Alex Monroe Butterfly Bracelet.

There are only 250 of these in the world, so it really is extra special……have a look:

To tie in with this, Alex has also designed an exclusive range of Jewellery for Penhaligon’s, again, limited edition, featuring filigree Butterflies and Dragonflies.  There are Stud Earrings, Charm Bracelets and Pendants and as usual, everything is available in Silver and Gold-Plated Silver.

For more details on Penhaligon’s and Amaranthine, click here for Penhaligon’s website.

You really must smell the fragrance – we’ve all fallen in love with it here!

Exhibition is open

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Phew!

We had a great Press Day yesterday, and our exhibition at Penhaligon’s Covent Garden is now on!

Yesterday (Friday 10th July) was press day for us in Covent Garden, so I got up at 6, loaded the car and met Richard from Penhaligon’s at about 7-30. Emma and Susie came along to help set up and everything was ready by 10. And we actually thought it looked great! Press day was a great success, lots of our lovely friends in the press turned up and we’d prepared fab goody bags for them all. By 7pm I was flagging a bit but all the girls came up from our studios, and we polished off all the Pimms, and retired to Sofra for a few bottles of bubbly and mezes. I soon perked up and we had a great night, but must admit I felt a bit ropey back at the exhibition at 9-30 this morning!

Anyway, we’re really pleased with it all. Here’s a few photos. Do come along if you can. The new pieces are available to buy from the exhibition only, and won’t be available anywhere else until Spring 2010!

Exhibition closes Sunday 19th July.

See you there!

Alex Monroe exhibition at Penhaligon’s

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Hi All,

I’m really excited to announce my Exhibition at Penhaligon’s! I’m showing a BRAND NEW collection of Jewellery, and launching a little book I’ve written!

Here’s the info….

THE GARDENER

An exhibition of Jewellery based on the story “The Gardener” by Alex Monroe and illustrated by Katharine Nicholls
At PENHALIGON’S Covent Garden, 41 Wellington Street Covent Garden London WC2E 7BN
From 11th to 18th July 2009

Alex has written an enchanting story of a young girl, who one summer happens across and an allotment and an elderly gardener. The encounter would shape her life. The story is beautifully illustrated by Katherine Nicholls, and the book will be available at Penhaligon’s during the exhibition.
Inside Penhaligon’s, Alex creates a magical natural world, and displays a special exhibition of jewellery based on the story.
Come and join Alex on the allotment, for stories, jewellery and gardening!

Alex has long been a keen gardener, and keeps an allotment in Dulwich, to where he retreats with his daughters to potter away, sit and eat strawberries and escape the chaos of everyday life. The idea for his book came after chatting to friends at Paris Fashion Week, and swapping allotment tips, as you do. The book imagines a solitary, thoughtful little girl who discovers the delights and secrets of city gardening.
Ants scurry about their business. Bees buzz and the breeze gently sways the apple branches. But the high garden fences cannot keep tragedy away and she soon discovers a sadness coupled with the new future opening before her.

Alex has created a delightful and surprising collection of jewellery, displayed in it’s own secret garden. In a reflection of the dreaminess of the story, ants and bees and dragonflies nestle amongst the plants and flowers. A large, smooth apple locket opens to reveal it own special secret……

“……if little Emmy had been able to look up (impossible if you’re careering down a narrow path, of course), but if she had looked up, she would have seen an apple.
The very apple that is really the start of this story……….. ”

It would be lovely to see you there, and hear your comments.

Do come along if you can make it.

Thanks!

Alex
