Brighton Beach Clean

On Saturday 8th June, in celebration of World Oceans Day, we took a trip to Brighton to participate in our very first Beach Clean Up! Leaving the big city in the early hours of weekend for a very windy coastline, an equal number of hats, scarves and overcoats on show as sunglasses, made us all question if it was really June! In collaboration with the Sealife Centre and the Brighton Dolphin Project, we spent a fun few hours scouring Brighton’s pebbles armed with litter pickers, sacks and some fantastic, like-minded company all giving up their Saturdays to make a difference to our oceans, wildlife, people and planet.

It was particularly fantastic to meet Wayne and extraordinary gentleman and his Inuit Husky partner who have been walking the coastlines of Britain since February 2016, picking up every piece of litter they have encountered along the way.

The whole experience was incredibly eye opening and drove home to us first hand just how many bottles, cans, straws, rubber tyres (!) and plastics of all shapes and sizes are vulnerable to being sucked up by our oceans everyday simply through being left behind on our beaches. On a more positive note, we also experienced the enormous power of a building army of volunteers banding together to ensure this is no longer the case.

Oceans x Friends of the Earth

2019 is a year of sustainability at Alex Monroe. We have been working with our Charity Partners Friends of the Earth to support their campaign on Plastic Pollution through donating £10 from every piece of Oceans sold!
