Alex Monroe gets Drastic on Plastic
In Partnership with Friends of the Earth

At Alex Monroe we are getting 'Drastic on Plastic' this February.
2019 marks our partnership with environmental organisation, Friends of the Earth and our commitment to protecting the natural environment that inspires everything that we do.

From reducing our reliance on virgin plastics as a business, to the small but significant changes we can all make as a community, we hope to inspire positive action to help protect our oceans, wildlife and planet.

Join us this February on our Instagram and Facebook for stories, inspiration, a fantastic competition and an exclusive preview of our SS19 Collection Oceans as Alex Monroe gets ‘Drastic on Plastic’.

Step 1

As a business with nature at its core, we have always made sustainability a priority, however we’ve found lots of small but important tweaks that can be made to reduce our plastic footprint. Changes we have put in place so far include…

1. Switching to sustainable and plastic free office supplies!

Environmentally friendly toilet paper and kitchen roll!

Who Gives a Crap makes a revolutionary toilet paper that’s tree, chemical and plastic free (packaging and all)! … and the best part? 50% of profits are donated to help build toilets for those in need.

Soap Bars over single use bottles.

Bar soap cuts down on plastic, is more hygienic than germy pumps and more cost-effective! The Kentish Soap Company provide bar soaps that are chemical free, suitable for vegans and supplied in plastic free packaging.

Who Gives a Crap are offering Alex Monroe customers £5 off their first order with them.

2.  Encouraging our Suppliers and Wholesale partners to get ‘Drastic on Plastic’

We have made a commitment to reuse the resealable plastic bags we send out our jewellery in to our Wholesale stockists including Liberty, John Lewis and Fenwick. A new sustainability card has been created explaining why, asking stockists to return bags back to us for reuse and encouraging them to join the ‘drastic on plastic!’ movement in any way they can.

From the workshop to the web team, our team members are working with our suppliers to act on their plastic practises.

3. Sustainability Consultation from our recycling partner First Mile.

We already incorporate recycling into the day to day running of our offices, however there is always room for improvement. This month we will organising an in-house workshop with our recycling service First Mile to see where we could improve our efforts.

About First Mile

Assisting over 20,000 business in the UK with sustainable waste disposal, First Mile are on a mission to make recycling everything a reality. They don’t just make recycling easy, they do it right recycling over 66% of the material they collect. The UK average is just 33%.

More action coming soon...
