The Goal

Tackling Plastics

Friends of the Earth is working to build public support for new legislation designed to end plastic pollution by sustainably phasing out all but the safest and most essential plastic. It also pushes for an acceleration in the research and development of new alternative materials.

In addition to this, our relationship with plastic must change if we are to reverse the devastating impact it is having on our oceans. That’s where everyone can get involved - by using Friends of the Earth’s lifestyle tips and taking part in Plastic-Free February, you can really help raise awareness and change habits.

Taking Action

Sign and Share the Petition

Ask the Government to take action by signing Friends of the Earth’s petition calling for a plastic free future:

  • The majority of plastic waste doesn't get reused or recycled. It's out there lingering in the natural environment – polluting our soils and seas. In fact only 9% of plastic has ever been recycled.
  • Up to 12million tonnes of plastic finds its way into our Oceans each year.
  • 1 million plastic bottles are bought every minute
  • Sea creatures can get tangled up in plastic – or mistake it for food. The effects can be fatal. Harmful chemicals linked to plastic have been found in species from plankton to dolphins. Recent evidence is showing that plastic is making its way up the entire food chain.
  • The good news. Since the 5p plastic bag charge 9 billion fewer plastic bags have been used across England

Working With Friends of the Earth

Our 2018 Helping Hand

Last summer we got behind 'Friends of the Earth's' campaign to 'Save the Bees' by giving away a free 'Bee Saver Kit' with every purchase from our Beehive. We have since given away over 1000 kits and hope to work with this cause again in the future!
