Golden Harvest

The starting point for this collection was actually some grass seed hoops, which we had made a while ago as prototypes when developing ideas. We had always loved them, but they never quite fit into a collection - so they were kept in our design archive as inspiration for some years. I was dying to make them in solid gold, so they were the perfect place to start for me!

The grass seed concept worked well alongside our ideas around self-sufficiency - taking it one step further to really go back to nature. As always, we started gathering inspirational images for a mood board, and it quickly became clear that we all loved the idea of a beautiful late-summer garden scene, with the gentle golden light of the sunset shining on all of the different grasses and wheat you might find at that time of year.

With our mood board in place, we will have lots of team chats about the new pieces we are most keen to make. We couldn't wait to try and recreate the rich textures from the grasses and seeds we were looking at and then assemble them into pieces of jewellery.

This is the first Alex Monroe collection to feature a 0.7ct Diamond - which is very exciting! As part of my job, I also oversee our Bespoke department, and having received more regular commissions and requests for larger diamonds, it felt like the right moment to add this to our offering.

As a member of Alex Monroe’s Responsibility Committee, it was important to me that we extended our support to Fairmined Gold further than our Gold-Plated collections. Perfect for showing off intricate details and catching the magical light of the golden hour.

Alongside our sun-kissed fields of wheat, I also fell in love with a series of antique jewellery pieces originally made by French designer, Alphonse Augis, who was inspired by a poem by Rosemonde Gérard, Qu’hier Que Demain and the key line - ‘I love you more than I did yesterday, and less than I will tomorrow’.

I wanted to create a timeless piece of jewellery to celebrate love, and we imagined a sweet couple growing old together and walking through the golden light of our garden scene, perhaps even finding a coin glinting in the ground...
