Description

An ornate floral heart locket set with a mixture of Garnets and Rubies. Inside, a parrot covered with an elaborate mixture of Blue Sapphires, Emeralds, Tsavorites, Citrines, Orange Sapphires and Rubies, sits on a swinging perch.

In 2008 Alex was approached by the iconic V&A museum to produce a piece of jewellery to be sold in the V&A store. Alex knew he wanted explore the relationship between Prince Albert and Queen Victoria for the final piece and a chance meeting with a relatively obscure portrait of Queen Victoria at St James' palace provided just the inspiration he was looking for.

'I was having lunch at St. James' palace and at the end of the room was the most radiant portrait of Queen Victoria, commissioned a few days after Albert had proposed to her. She was wearing the most ornate locket and to my delight the actual locket she was wearing was on display on the mantlepiece. I took that as my cue to create just as elaborate a piece for the V&A.

The parrot inside the locket, is a sort of metaphor for Queen Victoria after the death of Prince Albert, the imprisonment and almost continuous mourning she was in for the love of her life, that was Albert. I didn't want it to be unhappy because the portrait that inspired the piece I think is one of the few of her looking happy, so I wanted to do her and her love for Prince Albert justice by adorning the parrot with bright, colourful stones'.

- Alex Monroe

The locket measures approximately 3.5 cm from top to bottom and 3 cm at its widest point.

This necklace is available in 22ct gold plate only and comes on a fixed 30 inch hayseed chain.

All Alex Monroe jewellery is handmade in the UK.

Find Your Ring Size

At Alex Monroe, all of our rings are made by hand in our London workshop. This means that we can make your ring specially to your exact ring size.

When measuring your ring size there are a few things to be aware of:

•  Firstly, your fingers will change size slightly throughout the day. Physical activity, and temperature all have an effect.

•  You shouldn't measure your ring size whilst your hands are cold, as your fingers can be up to half a size smaller at this time.

•  A ring with a wider band will feel a little tighter than a very fine ring. Therefore we would always recommend buying a size larger than your usual ring size.

•  Your ring should fit comfortably, feeling snug enough when you wear it that it won't fall off, but still be able to fit over your knuckle when you take it off.

If you are unsure of your ring size, then by far the best and most accurate way to find out, is to pay a visit to a local jewellers. You can also give us a call on +44(0)2073786061 and speak with a member of our customer service team for additional advice.

Ordering a special ring size

If you would like to order a ring size that isn't listed on our website, please give us a call at +442073786061 or email us. We will then be able to confirm whether we can make the ring in your requested size.

Once we have confirmed this, you can place your ring order through our website, selecting the closest listed size.

When placing your order, please make sure to leave a comment with your correct ring size during the checkout process.

Rings made in a size outside of our standard size range will be non-exchangeable or refundable, as we will need to make these specially. We can resize any ring, but there may be a small charge involved to do so.
