Meet Alex Monroe
Jeweller Alex Monroe grew up in the 1970’s Suffolk countryside in an old, crumbling house surrounded by wild, tangled nature. He enjoyed a childhood rich with freedom and imagination - roaming through fields, forests and rivers and constantly crafting all sorts of interesting (and sometimes mildly dangerous) tools and inventions to accompany him on his adventures!
Training at the School of Art, Architecture and Design in London, Alex unexpectedly turned his hand to the craft of jewellery - and released his first collection in 1987 to critical acclaim. His intention was to produce excellent quality pieces, originally designed, made by hand and well priced. This was jewellery made to be worn, made to be loved and made to be treasured - values which remain unchanged to this day!
We have been proudly hand making jewellery in England for over 30 years with each and every piece hand finished in our London workshops.
Our proactive approach to sustainability and responsible business practices is at the heart of the creation of our jewellery. We work closely with trusted suppliers to ensure that we only use materials and gemstones that have been responsibility sourced and processed.
Ensuring we create beautiful jewellery with as little impact on the environment as possible is extremely important to us, as a result we have taken ownership of our carbon footprint and are on a mission to reduce our emissions year on year.
Intricately handmade in sterling silver, certified Fairmined gold plate and 18ct solid gold, our jewellery is best known for its signature, natural details. Handmade In England
We have been proudly hand making jewellery in England using a mix of traditional and specifically developed techniques for over 30 years. From the inspiration behind our collections, to how our pieces come to life in our workshop, discover the intricate making process behind every piece of Alex Monroe jewellery.
We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that we are keeping any environmental impact to a minimum, whilst positively contributing to communities. We have also been working to calculate and work towards reducing our Carbon Footprint across the business with the help of Ecollective.
We of course love Jewellery, but can't avoid the fact it is often not a very sustainable business to be in. We want to be super clear about what we are doing to be more sustainable, and we always want to do better. Our first step towards this is transparency, and giving our customers the facts to be confident in their purchase.
As our team, customers and community have steadily grown, recognising, addressing and managing the environmental and social impacts of our business with a balance of positive action, has remained of huge importance to us - from our brand ethos to our making process, the materials we use, and our partners and suppliers.
We are also proud and honoured to have partnered with some incredible charities over the past years, using our jewellery and the strength of our community to raise awareness and much-needed funds for a spectrum of worthwhile causes! From Great Ormond Hospital and Breast Cancer Haven to our environmental campaigning on ocean plastic pollution and the need for increased tree cover with Friends of the Earth.
Alex Monroe Jewellery is synonymous with a very British sense of style – slightly quirky, but intended to be worn and loved for a lifetime. Inspired by the natural world, our pieces are delicate, detailed, and always handmade in England.Alex Monroe Founder & Creative Director
