Born from a journey through endangered habitats across the UK, Alex spent last Spring sketching wildflowers, grasses, and trees in meadows and woodlands.Back in the studio, these studies blossomed into jewellery. Alongside our talented Design Team, Alex translated quaking grasses, delicate florals, pine needles, and ancient bark textures into intricate, wearable pieces—each one a celebration of the patience and care behind traditional craftsmanship.
The fern leaf designs all began with a delicate sketch of a fern, which was carefully hand-pierced from fine silver. Every tiny vein on each
separate frond is accurately chased (where the metal is hammered to create a protuding texture) into the silver.
After making many silver fern leaves, some were used to create gently curved hoops, whilst others became bold statement stud earrings. At every
stage the silver ferns are compared to the actual fern leaves and whilst the shape of the finished piece is checked to ensure it sits
beautifully and comfortably on the wearer. The result is a graceful, organic piece.
TEMPERATE RAINFOREST
The starting point for the collection came when Alex embarked on a project researching and visiting endangered natural habitats in the UK
throughout the Spring of 2024. After a number of trips to his chosen locations, Alex studied the plants, flowers and leaves unique to each
habitat in great detail, through quick sketches and detailed drawings.
Temperate rainforests are rare, lush ecosystems found in specific regions of the UK, particularly along the west coast of Scotland, Wales, and
parts of Northern Ireland. These forests thrive in areas with high rainfall, mild temperatures, and a humid environment, making them rich in
biodiversity.
