Born from a journey through endangered habitats across the UK, Alex spent last Spring sketching wildflowers, grasses, and trees in meadows and woodlands.Back in the studio, these studies blossomed into jewellery. Alongside our talented Design Team, Alex translated quaking grasses, delicate florals, pine needles, and ancient bark textures into intricate, wearable pieces—each one a celebration of the patience and care behind traditional craftsmanship.
From sketchbook doodles to finished design, this piece was inspired by the small, humble flowers found in wild meadows. We set out to capture their delicate charm — complete with calyx and sepal, the outer parts of the flower that cradle the petals — so they could hang down like a floral festoon. The petals, reminiscent of skirts or petticoats, are intentionally ruffled and irregular, just as they are in nature. Each one celebrates the beauty of imperfection, bringing a soft, playful elegance to the final piece.
UNIMPROVED GRASSLAND
Unimproved grasslands are species-rich meadows that have remained untouched by modern farming practices like fertilisation and intensive grazing. These natural habitats are incredibly diverse, supporting a wide array of rare and specialised plants, insects, and birds.
Today, they’re among the UK’s most threatened ecosystems. The spread of intensive agriculture, urban development, and overgrazing has caused a dramatic decline in these once-abundant landscapes. Without careful conservation, many of the species that rely on unimproved grasslands face the risk of disappearing altogether.
